At Harsiddhi Air Solution, we design and manufacture high-performance PSA Oxygen Plants – on-site gas generation systems that continuously produce high purity oxygen at your facility. Whether for industrial processes, medical gases, or research, our plants are designed for high reliability, energy efficiency and low unplanned down-time.
What is a PSA Oxygen Plant?
A PSA Oxygen Plant utilizes Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) technologies to separate oxygen from compressed air by selectively adsorbing nitrogen and other gases using zeolite molecular sieve media.
In other words PSA Oxygen Plant is:
- Ambient air (which is approximately 21% O₂ and 78% N₂) is compressed, filtered and dried.
- The treated compressed air then enters adsorption vessels that are filled with zeolite molecular sieves that preferentially adsorb nitrogen, allowing for oxygen to pass through as the product gas.
- The system consists of two vessels that operate alternately. One vessel is producing oxygen while the other is being regenerated (desorbing nitrogen at a lower pressure) — which enables continuous operation.
- This non-cryogenic method allows for on-site, demand-based oxygen generation — which alleviates reliance on cylinder or bulk liquid supply.
Why Invest in a PSA Oxygen Plant?
✔ Cost Savings
- On-site production minimizes recurring costs associated with cylinder delivery, liquid oxygen refills, logistics and storage. Research proves PSA systems can provide significant long-term savings.
✔ Reliability & Independence
- This means continuous secured supply of oxygen on-site at whatever flow and purity you choose — do not wait for deliveries.
✔ High Purity & Performance
- Modern PSA Oxygen Plants can deliver purities of oxygen typically in the range of 90 % to 95 % depending on specification — suitable for many industrial and medical applications.
✔ Energy Efficiency & Sustainability
- Air is the feedstock; conventional cryogenic refrigeration is not needed, nor is large, transportable cylinder supply chain. Overall process is cleaner, greener and, importantly, sustainable.
✔ Customisable & Scalable
- Plants can be custom-designed to almost any flow rate of your choice (Nm³/h), pressure, purity and footprint – even modular or skid-mounted designs.

- Water & Waste Water Treatment – Aeration as well as oxidation processes.
All systems are custom designed to your unique flow, purity, pressure and operational conditions.
Overview of the Process of PSA Oxygen Plants
- Air Compression and Pre-Treatment – The process begins with the ambient air being compressed by a suitable air compressor. After compression, the air is dried and filtered to remove moisture, oil and particulates, which protects the molecular sieve media.
- Adsorption Phase – Pre-treated compressed air enters one of the adsorption towers filled with zeolite molecular sieves. In this process, nitrogen is preferentially adsorbed while the oxygen flows out into the product line.
- Switchover and Regeneration Phase – Once the first tower approaches saturation, a valve switch activates the second tower for adsorption. The first vessel is then depressurized and the nitrogen is desorbed and the sieve media is regenerated in preparation for the next cycle.
- Product Gas Delivery – The generated oxygen is captured in a buffer and/or receiver tank and then distributed to the application at pressure.
- Controls and Monitoring – PLC or touchscreen HMI systems allows monitoring of the oxygen purity, pressure, flow rate, alarms and system health all for effective performance and safety.
Technical Specs of PSA Oxygen Plants
- Flow Rate: Can vary extensively (e.g., smaller units can be just a few Nm³/h to larger industrial volumes of several or hundreds and thousands Nm³/h)
- Oxygen Purity: Generally in the range of approximately ~90-95% (higher purity can be designed and are generally available)
- Pressure: Generally will be 4-7 bar(g) or to customer specification.
- Automation: PLC/SCADA driven, based on touchscreen HMI with remote monitoring
- Configuration: Installed skid or containerised with little to no requirement for site works.
- Maintenance: Low maintenance, periodic operator checking the filters and sieves; service life of many years on typical system outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions About PSA Oxygen Plant
Q1: What is a PSA Oxygen Plant?
A: It is a system that follows Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) technology to separate oxygen from compressed air and supply high purity oxygen in the facility, without the dependencies of cylinders or bulk supply.
Q2: What is the oxygen purity of a PSA Oxygen Plant?
A: For general applications, the oxygen purity is generally ~ 90-95 %; other purities can be achieved based on the design and configuration of the system.
Q3: Is generating oxygen on-site better than cylinders or liquid oxygen?
A: Yes, on-site PSA plants provide desensitization from accepted supply, lower long costs, reliability, and lead times importance in cylinder and liquid supply schemes.
Q4: What sectors use the PSA Oxygen Plant?
A: Hospitals and health care, pharmaceuticals, food & beverage, chemical & petrochemical, metals & glass, research laboratories, aquaculture, and wastewater treatment.
Q5: What should I think about when choosing the size of the PSA Oxygen Plant?
A: The main considerations consist of oxygen flow needed in Nm³/h, required purity, desired operating pressure, available footprint, power and integration with your systems, etc.
Q6: What are the maintenance requirements?
A: Regular checking of filters and air compressor condition, checking sieve performance, checking pressures/flow etc. and a regular service of valves and sensors. It can last for many years and perform reliably if it’s maintained well.
Q7: Can the plant be expanded later?
A: Yes, many systems are modular and skid mounted and thus can be expanded later by adding extra modules to increase capacity or purity.
