How PSA Nitrogen Plants Functions — Step by Step
- Air Compression & Pretreatment – An air compressor compresses ambient air. The result air is dried and filtered to eliminate moisture, oil and particulate contamination.
- Adsorption Phase – The pre-treated compressed air enters the first adsorption tower, which includes CMS. The system adsorbs unwanted gases and oxygen; nitrogen flows through to the receiver tank.
- Switch & Regeneration – After the adsorbent CMS in the first tower has become saturated, the system will switch to the second tower for adsorbing. The first tower is desorbed (depressurized) to regenerate CMS for the next cycle.
- Nitrogen Storage & Distribution – The nitrogen generated will be stored in a buffer tank/receiver and distributed to your process at the required pressure.
- Control & Monitoring – Newer systems will use PLC/SCADA for automation, remote monitoring, alarms, and optimized functionality.
